I have been drawing and writing since I could hold a crayon. I took art classes throughout elementary and high school. Later, I studied calligraphy for several years with inspiring teachers like Sandy Diamond, Alan Blackman, Julian Waters and John Stevens. But when I had small children, I packed up my calligraphy tools and stored them in the basement. Sharp little nibs and bottles of ink weren't compatible with toddlers.
Flash-forward 25 years, and one of those babies was getting married and wanted hand-lettered wedding invitation envelopes! I dusted off all the supplies and set to relearning that long-abandoned skill. I managed to accomplish the envelope task, which re-ignited my passion for the art of calligraphy. It’s a very different world now, with Instagram and YouTube - there are so many ways to be inspired and to learn. Slowly, I’m relearning. I’ve taken fantastic workshops with Gemma Black, Rick Paulus and other great teachers, both in calligraphy and watercolor painting.
I’m excited to share my renewed love of calligraphy and art with others.
